Mom
Luang Tri Devakul, better known simply as Mom Tri, has been
a pioneer in the development of Phuket as a permier travel
destination, not only for tourists but also for people seeking
a permanent residence on this alluring island in the Andaman
Sea off Thailand's southern coast.
The Harvard-educated
Mom Tri's first undertaking was the Club Med on Kata Yai beach
back in the 1970s. He also built a house for himself on a
hillside between Kata Yai and Kata Noi, which started out
as a simple thatched-roof bungalow and over the years, expanded
into a collection of buildings that now comprise Mom Tri's
Villas Royale, one of Phuket's most beautiful and exclusive
boutique hotels.
Other notable properties
he has designed, and insome cases personally managed, include
Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort, Le Royal Meridien Phuket
Yacht Club, Mom Tri's Boathouse, Trisara Hotel and Resort
and a group of private homes known as Mom Tri's Baan Kata
Villas.
In all of these, modern
comforts are combined with traditional Thai features to create
a memorable atmosphere.
